Turn Off Water Supply
One way to prevent unexpected
water damage
in your home is to turn off the water supply. While this typically isn’t a
problem, you never know what could go wrong while you’re out of the house
for an extended period, even if you plan on spending a long weekend at the
beach. By doing this, you can help avoid flood damage due to a leak that
you didn’t know about beforehand. After all, a leak can damage any part of
your home – from bathrooms and kitchens to laundry rooms and even the
living room; it all depends on how far the water damage can spread.
Unplug Electronics
You will also want to take the time to unplug all of your expensive and
valuable electronics. Everything needs electricity to run smoothly, and
they will continue to feed on your
home’s
electrical system even when they aren’t actively in use – so this can be
bad news when you go away for a few days. Even better, you can reduce the
chances of an electrical fire breaking out when there is no one around to
help stop it before first responders can arrive.
If you go too quickly, you won’t be able to pull up all of the dirt and
debris that could be hiding in the fibers of your home’s
carpets. After each session, take the time to empty the canister or the bag, so
you don’t overwhelm the vacuum. Full vacuums are less effective because
they have nowhere to store all the dust that they are collecting. Then be
sure to test the suction on the vacuum. If it isn’t good, it might be time
for a replacement model. Try to vacuum small shreds of paper at a time to
see how well the vacuum will pick it up.
Put Baking Soda in Drains
Although this advice sounds strange, it works. With some vinegar mixed in,
you can use it to help unclog the drains in your house. Plus the drains
will smell fresher. No one wants to come home to find it stinky all over
the place, so be sure to drop some baking soda into the toilet for good
measure; a cup of it should suffice.
Clean Up Your Home
Finally, clean up your home. Sometimes, all of the clutter in the living
room, dirty dishes piling up in the kitchen, and dirty tile and grout in
the bathroom can get the best of you. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, then
it’s a sign you need to get some help from professionals who can do it
quickly, effectively, and provide service with a smile!
