Tips on Cleaning for a Thanksgiving Feast

December 27, 2018

A successful Thanksgiving meal often leaves hours of cleanup in its wake, eating into the time that you can spend with your friends and family. Arming yourself with a few critical cleaning tips, however, can cut down the time that you spend cleaning.

Avoiding Stains

Feast

It only takes a moment for a spoonful of cranberry sauce to end up on your clean linens. If you don’t want to cover your table linens with a plastic sheet to protect them from stains, you must be prepared to leap into action after an accident occurs. Immediately blot up the excess mess with a dry towel. Next, use a wet towel and your favorite fabric cleaner to remove the rest of the stain. Even something as simple as water and some liquid detergent might get the stain out, even for tough stains like wine. If you can’t remove the stain with a little effort and a cleaner, you may need to put the tablecloth in your washing machine immediately.

Cleaning Your Special Occasion Dishes

Thanksgiving isn’t the time to use your casual dinnerware; a special feast calls for special dishes. Cleaning these dishes, however, requires a little extra work. Immediately after your party finishes their meal, start cleaning your silverware. If you wait too long, food will dry and get stuck to your utensils. To avoid damaging your finest utensils, wash them by hand instead of using the dishwasher. After washing your silverware in warm water with detergent, dry them with a cloth and put the utensils away. If you want to wait to clean your tableware, start soaking it in your sink. When you come back to finish cleaning, removing the food from your dishes will be much easier.
