Tile and Grout Cleaning 101

March 28, 2019

Cleaning up all the tile and grout in your home or business can be more difficult than you might imagine. At the same time, it doesn’t have to be a daunting challenge. Here is more information about what you need to know when it’s time to clean the tile and grout in your property this spring.

Tools for Cleaning Tile and Grout

Tile floors

First of all, you’ll need a brush for cleaning the tile and grout anywhere you find it. However, these items are easy to find at your neighborhood hardware store. Just ask the employees there for some help on how to find them when you look for them. Before discarding your newest toothbrush and replacing it with a brand new one, you can still get some use out of it. Using this can work in a pinch, especially when you can’t find the brush or you don’t have time to get to the store. Choose an electric toothbrush instead of a manual one to help make everything go more quickly. Chisels are inexpensive and also a useful tool for getting tile and grout clean. Steamers and microfiber cloths can also help if you don’t have access to anything else at the moment.

Other Ideas for Cleaning Products

Vinegar and water make useful cleaning products for almost any part of your home. You probably didn’t know that you could use it to clean tile and grout, as well. However, it won’t do much for stone, hardwood floors, or tiles. Some baking soda and mild detergent can help too. Plus, using a mixture of baking soda and water can be surprisingly effective, too.

Tips for Cleaning the Grout

Now it’s time to focus on cleaning the grout. After you’ve made some solution, it’s time to find out if it works. First of all, apply it. Then leave it alone and let soak into the dirty grout. When you’re using vinegar, you’ll have to give it half an hour, but when you use baking soda, you will only need to wait at most ten or fifteen minutes. After that, use the brush or chisel to spread the solution around some more. Use some water to clean up any residue left on your grout. If none of these steps make a difference, then it’s time to try something a bit stronger – commercial cleaning products formulated to get rid of dirt, debris, and grime. You can restore the shine that your grout once had. However, when you decide that the time has come to switch to another cleaning method, be sure that you don’t mix cleaners that shouldn’t blend.

How We Clean Tile

Making sure tile gets cleaned effectively relies on the same three steps. Here’s a look at we do for you:

  • We apply some pre-spray specifically formulated for cleaning tile and grout. This spray helps attack the grime on the floor. Then, when it is gone over again, it lifts more easily.
  • The grout is then scrubbed by hand. Scrubbing the grout ensures the pre-spray is applied evenly. The scrubbing also helps get rid of any debris stuck to the grout.
  • We then use the Hydro-Force SX tile cleaning system. By doing this, we can go over both the tile and grout. This system uses 800 psi water pressure and 200 degree water to help refresh the tile and grout. Even though the grime is gone, you won’t see any signs of damage!
